CHUN YUEN CHUAN

SHAOLIN KUNG FU FOR HEALTH

Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen

Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen
Shaolin Master

Everyone has heard of the famous fighting monks of the Shaolin Temple and their powerful and balletic kung fu exercise routines. What is less well known is that these exercises, called Yun Dong (internal work) are much more than just fighting forms and can be adapted for men and women of all ages and abilities to enhance health, relaxation, suppleness, balance and vitality.
Chun Yuen Chuan (elegant set fist) is an offshoot of the Northern Chang Chuan (long fist) school and was featured in many performances of the Beijing Opera. The Chun Yuen routines can be performed in various user-friendly ways for different age groups, making them accessible to all. So don't worry if you can't do the splits, perform a flying kick, or even touch your toes! You can do this!
The classes will consist of the Chun Yuen warm-ups and learning/polishing the first three, most important forms; Da Bei Gong (the Great Sadness); Xing Sau (hand shape) and Da Mo Staff.
All these exercises will build up the body's internal warmth, balance, posture, suppleness, confidence and sense of well- being.
These, and other wonderful forms have been handed down by a famous Beijing Opera performer of the 1930's called Wang Ping to his student Wu Chun Yuen in the 1950's. Wu Chun Yuen then taught Master Tse Wei Jing until Master Wu's death in 2003. The forms (called Chun Yuen by Tse Wei Jing in honour of his teacher Master Wu) emphasise correct posture and attention to detail, thus maximising the flow of qi around the body. They're also great fun to learn.
