Felt maker/embroiderer

I have always loved art, both the looking and the making. I trained as a teacher in Brighton with art as my main subject and print making my specialist area of study. I became interested in textiles after visiting an exhibition in my twenties.
Subsequently, I studied City and Guilds (Part 1) in Creative Embroidery at Suffolk College, which I completed in 1989 This was followed by several years of part-time study for a BA in Art Education where I enjoyed working in a variety of 2D and 3D media. Being on a course gave me focus for my work and, more importantly, deadlines- vital when working and bringing up a family! Between 2002 and 2004 I undertook the Foundation Course with the Open College of the Arts.

In 2004 I was selected to be a member of TAGS. I am now a keen felt maker and no longer need courses to maintain my output; sometimes I am so excited by my projects that I can't sleep at night!

Since childhood I have picked up and hoarded rocks. As a girl, my room was anything but pink. It was an explorer's bivouac, a geologist's display area, a mountain hut. As a student I went off in search of standing stones. Current interests find me returning to the mineral world to respond in textiles to the stones I find on the Suffolk coast. The technical challenge of working with felt, combined with the pebbles' beautiful colours and infinite variety, is enough to keep me busy at present!

I am available to run felt making workshops for adults or children. My work is available for sale and may be commissioned.
