Textile Artist Karin studied Embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating in 1997. Since then she has had a period working as a weaver/weave designer within communities for people with learning disabilities. Karin has always been interested in the nature of stitch itself, and works mainly with structure and construction techniques employing an amalgamation of embroidery, knit, basketry and weave. She is very much "materials" driven - using what has been salvaged, found or recycled - and particularly likes to weave/stitch practically anything other than fabric itself. As such, Karin's work often becomes three-dimensional, and movement has become important. The style of her pieces can vary between weave design, crafted one-off sculptural pieces to full blown chairs, and cushions. |
