Mary Crehan
Embroiderer
Mary's work incorporates hand-made paper, fabric, screen- and block-printing; as well as hand and machine embroidery. This creates a highly textured and painted surface.
Architecture and stone carvings found on Neolithic sites, as well as the Irish landscape, particularly The Burren, County Clare; are some of the sources of inspiration for her work.
Born and educated in Cork, she settled in England on the 60s, taking up a career in education.
She holds City and Guilds parts 1 and 2 in Creative Embroidery, and now works freelance in Embroidered Textiles, well-known for her mixed-media approach.
Mary is a member of the Embroiderers' Guild, The Suffolk Craft Society, and Textile Art Group Suffolk.
She accepts commissions, gives talks and runs workshops. She exhibits locally and nationally.
Her work appears in magazines, and the recently published "Appearance and Reality" by Stephen Hogbin.
