Spiral Quilt Class - Supply List

Spiral Quilt ClassOne or Two Days

The one-day class will cover making the top of this quilt, and I try to discuss the quilting. The two-day class will include all the quilting and you should take your quilt home with the binding on, ready to hand-finish..

You will need at least 20 fabrics, in a selection of one colour (i.e reds, blues, greens) or a rainbow sequence. You don't need much of each colour, so fat 1/8ths will do. Have at least one long quarter from this selection for binding. I recommend that you choose tone-on-tone type prints - avoid too much white/cream in the background.

3/4 metre plain dark fabric to tone with or complement your accent colours (very dark red, navy, black, dark purple) Make sure this is the darkest fabric in the set.

3/4 metre for backing
Batting. I prefer cotton batting, as thin as possible, but the highly compressed or very thin polys are OK..
3/4 metre of calico (pre-washed, please) or old clean white sheet for the foundation layer.
One piece each of a bold black-and-white print (not too large a pattern) and a very shiny fabric (solid gold and silver are good). (Eighths again)

Thread - fine thread in a neutral or matching colour for piecing. Decorative thread (variegated is nice) for quilting.

Sewing tools as usual, pins, scissors, pencil, cutter and mat, ruler.

Sewing machine. Nothing fancy required, but please make sure that your machine is in good order, and that you have the manual with you. You will need a 'darning' foot for the quilting. If you have a walking foot this may be useful, but it is not essential.
Wind a bobbin with your piecing thread before you come.

One day, £25.00 per person;
Two days, £45.00 per person.
